Recreation time and poker
Costume:
McMurphy dressed differently and always on screen. Now wears hospital outfit but with his own t shirt underneath. He still stands out and looks more sane than the other characters. His hair is done and he is beginning to stand out less in the hospital
Cinematography:
Shots of the outside are filmed from behind a metal fence - Creates the feeling of being trapped and not being able to have a clear view of the outsides. Obstructed view of freedom. He is centre of focus as he is the audiences experience of what the hospital is like. He is centre of focus and clearly is respected by all of the patients.
Performance:
Cheif has a lack of emotion but is shown looking outside unlike the others. We see he feels trapped and doesnt want to be in there. The black worker speaks aggressively to the patients and swears - reflection of the time period when black people had just been sent to war as soon as they earned their freedom. McMurphy is the only one happy outside and moving around while the others are all dull - helps us see later how McMurphy impacts the patients.
Sounds:
Contrasting calm music to hectic atmosphere makes us and McMurphy feel uneasy.
Key themes:
Freedom/Control
