Scene analysis PULP FICTION

First Scene with Vincent and Jules:

Cinematography: Two shot. Bright colours. Shot from boot. Walk towards camera at same speed.
Show equal levels of authority. Clearly friendly and neither is in charge of the other. Shot from boot has them look down at the audience very drastically - signature Tarantino shot shows them to be intimidating powerful and brave. The natural lighting highlights that they are in a public area yet are still not scared or even cautious.
Performance: Friendly. Up beat mood. Confident. Shows normality. Lots of low angles on powerful characters.
Sound: Playful modern music. Danger related conversations mixed with humorous random conversations. Music sets a mood of excitement. Music sets mood initially with one song. Pop culture music elevates the viewer.

Tarantino regularly uses modern music in his films to create a sense of surrealism as the characters are presented to be overly powerful as they are confident and practically posing in a situation that would normally leave people in silence terrified and focused on what is happening at the current moment instead of irrelevant small talk.

Comments

  1. No where near detailed enough. How does this scene highlight Tarantino traits? What effect do the key film elements have on audience understanding? I know you know how to analyse a scene in a film.
